How Transportation Work Under NDIS

Transport is an integral part of everyday life. You might need it to get to work, a place of study, medical appointments, run day-to-day errands and to generally access the community. That’s why, it is important to consider your transport needs prior to any NDIS plan management or planning meeting.

For people with a disability, travel can incur an extra cost. Because of this, the NDIS will fund reasonable and necessary transport supports in your NDIS Plan.

Transport Support to NDIS Participants

The NDIS funds reasonable and necessary supports that will help the NDIS participants achieve their goals, objectives and aspirations. This may include transport that enables social & community participation, economic and daily life activities and where you cannot use public transport without substantial difficulty due to your disability. The NDIS will also consider what is reasonable for families, disability carers, informal networks and the community to provide.

NDIS Transport Supports may Include:

  • Travel to and from work, study and community participation
  • Transport related aids and equipment
  • Vehicle modifications like special seating
  • Cost of taxis for those who cannot travel independently
