The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a government-funded program that provides support to Australians with disabilities. The scheme supports services for NDIS Participants which fall under one of three categories: core, capital and capacity building. Core Building

Core Building Services
Two primary services offered to NDIS participants are Personal Care and Transport Assistance. Both of which serve to help in completing day to day tasks with minimal guidance and allows participants to feel a sense of accomplishment knowing they are capable of being independent.
Personal Care
Every NDIS participant has different health conditions and challenges. Thus, a one-size-fits-all solution is not viable and services which fall under personal care should be tailored according to individual needs.
The services available include assistance with basic needs such as grooming, dressing, eating and hygiene. Personal care can also extend to provide support for mobility to transfer in and out of bed.
Transport Assistance
The NDIS provides this service to help participants with their commuting. You will be eligible to access funding if you cannot use public transport without substantial difficulty due to your disability.
The vehicles available should be wheelchair friendly and should come with assistance from highly trained staff and drivers. There are also opportunities to use modified vehicles during transportation, if that’s an option the participant prefers. Additionally, vehicles can also be driven by using specialised controls or other adaptations. Capital Building Services
Under this category, participants may choose to go for Mobility Equipment and Home Modification. These are technological and equipment based adjustments making it easier and safer for you to get around.
Mobility Equipment
This type of equipment is perfect for those with physical disabilities which limit their movement. Getting out and about shouldn’t be a challenge, instead it should come as second nature. Utilising mobility equipment which participants are eligible for can help to leverage portability from point A to B with convenience and minimal to no support altogether.
NDIS service providers showcase a wide range of options to choose from such as manual and motorised wheelchairs, electric scooters, walking frames, access ramps, safe patient handling, fall prevention aids and much more.
Home Modification
These are physical changes made to a participant’s place of residence so that it can become a more comfortable and accessible environment for them. These adjustments are usually recommended by an allied health professional, such as an occupational therapist. After all, safety should never be compromised and this service ensures it isn’t.
Some common examples of home modification services include widening doorways and hallways, and installing handrails, ramps, lifts, and stair climbers. Fitting in handrails, grab rails, handheld shower hoses, and overall bathroom and kitchen modifications according to the participants needs.
Capacity Building Services
The most commonly used NDIS services for growing a participant’s capacity are Community Participation and Allied Health Care. Who doesn’t enjoy skill-building and pursuing a sociable lifestyle? If this sounds right up your alley, then these services are an absolute must for any NDIS participant.
Community Participation
It is important for all social beings to interact within the community to improve their mental health and have an optimistic approach towards life. As its name suggests, this service involves activities which foster community engagement while meeting and befriending like minded individuals.
NDIS participants may choose to partake in art and cultural pursuits, courses and education programs, sports and recreational activities, to name a few. All of which share a common goal of empowering people with disabilities and tending to both their physical and emotional well-being.
Allied Health Care
This type of service is designed to help participants access a wide range of treatment methods to help restore, increase and maintain optimal physical function and general well-being. It involves therapeutic and rehabilitation treatment from health professionals such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists and more.
